Media Hardware

Grove Design’s widespread set of capabilities means that aesthetic and engineering considerations are seamlessly combined. Hardware that creates an exciting immersive experience needs to express its capabilities within how it looks itself.

Client

Igloo Vision specialises in shared immersive experiences, creating spaces that are able to display any form of digital content, that can be used by anyone. As well as creating these spaces, Igloo Vision also builds the media players that are used to project the content around the space.

Working closely with Igloo Vision, allowed Grove Design to freely exchange ideas, interrogate concepts in detail, and use our skills to create a production appropriate, high quality product.

Product

Having worked on other products Grove Design was asked to design and develop a new media server, for their client’s new Immersive Media Player or ‘IMP’, which would act as a powerful processor for any digital content and software that would be used within the immersive space. Aesthetics were an important element of the design process, as we explored concepts that resulted in a sleek, and eye catching design.

Finding the ideal balance between style and practicality was a significant challenge. Grove Design’s solid understanding of manufacturing production processes, allowed us to investigate a range of approaches appropriate to the volume of production.  This resulted in a striking look whilst using cost effective production methods.

The outcome is certainly unique, with an intriguing front panel that reveals a sharp, angular design. This layered effect serves both a functional, and visual purpose: The outer layer softly reveals the glow of the screen beneath and the inner provides the functional, mechanical and electronic interfaces.
