Hand
held data reader
This
innovative device was conceived by Osprey Engineering as a result
of their experience supplying the fire fighting industry. The
unit can read from, and write to, minute transponders using
a radio frequency link. The transponders are resilient and can
be embedded in a range of items. Grove Design worked closely
with Osprey to take all mechanical aspects of the device from
the initial sketch to final production. Rapid prototyping techniques
were used to accelerate the earlier stages of the process.
The unit is extremely robust and very simple to operate. The
body is made from a single plastic injection moulding with moulded
elastomeric ends.
Automotive
components Grove
Design has designed many automotive components and assemblies
for Brycrest Ltd a long-standing client. The ultimate customers
require high quality and a consistent controlled product, creative
design at the onset of projects can help to achieve this as
well as keeping component and tooling costs down.
Four
Wheel drive systems
Grove Design has worked closely with CountyTrac Ltd to design
their latest range of 4-wheel drive vehicles. The system encompasses
dedicated drivetrain (including differential), suspension and
steering components. Many purpose-designed aluminium castings
and steel forgings are used. Considerable analysis has been
necessary to achieve the current handling capabilities.
As an extension to this work Grove Design has recently installed
a computerised data logging system on to a current vehicle.
This allows monitoring of steering loads, travels, fluid temperatures
etc to aid in further vehicle development.
Special
Purpose Machinery
A
recent project for Saturn Industries Ltd involved the total
mechanical detailing and considerable concept design for a
fully automated crankshaft balancing machine. This machine
runs continually without intervention. It offers low cycle
times and quick tool changes.
Drawing
Office Support
More
than one client requires provision of long term drawing office
support. For example A full range of drawing office functions
is supplied to Actuator Control Systems (Grove Design have created
and maintain around one thousand of their drawings) These span
from the design of multi-station stainless steel manifolds to
doing a five minute change on a five year old drawing. Software
has been purpose written for Grove Design clients to allow drawing
management and, if required, to allow an up to date copy of
all drawings to be to be maintained for viewing on the client’s
network, this happens without client intervention.
Similarly
Adams Ricardo Ltd require several hundred drawings to be maintained
and need a rapid turn around for new equipment drawings.
